The Georgetown Art Center is located at 816 South Main Street on Georgetown’s historic square. The facility opened in October of 2013 and Georgetown Art Works, a local non-profit, manages all the programs with leadership from an all volunteer board.
Art Exhibits are in continuous rotation in the main gallery throughout the year. Art education, Art camps, and periodic pop-up shows & events are held in the First Floor Studio. The second floor contains artist studios for rent.
a bit of history
The Art Center is housed in a historic building. Originally the city of Georgetown’s city hall, jail, waterworks, and fire station, the 123-year-old Firehouse Number 1 was transformed in a renovation in 2013.

Georgetown Art Works is the 501(c)(3) Texas nonprofit organization selected by the City of Georgetown to manage the Art Center. The all volunteer board strives to represent the visual arts within the larger arts and culture community of Georgetown. We collaborate with the Georgetown arts and culture community and promote Georgetown as an arts destination and a Texas Cultural District, one of a number of districts designated by the Texas Commission on the Arts.
Georgetown Art Works provides innovative, intelligent exhibits and programs that promote visual literacy in the greater community. Our vision is to be nationally recognized as an arts and culture center of excellence.
Each year, a panel of curators, artists, gallery owners, and guest judges with considerable experience in the visual arts is assembled to review artist proposals. The panel recommends finalists to the Georgetown Art Works Exhibits Committee, where final selections are made.
It is our goal to educate our visitors and foster an appreciation of the arts. We provide a variety of experiences and educational programs, including art classes, special exhibitions, Summer camps, and our annual Art Hop. Stay up to date on all Georgetown Art Center news, from exhibitions and events to classes, camps, and calls for art, with the GAC blog & our newsletter.
